Often a selfless or kind act can win the hearts of many. After all, it is important to be compassionate and kind towards everyone, especially towards animals and birds. Such random acts of kindness also instil a sense of goodwill and karma. Many in India feed stray cows, dogs and cats. However, one woman from North Kannada has grabbed the headlines for her daily ritual of feeding crows. Not a handful of them, but about 60 of them every day.

Meet Jaya Nayak, a resident of Kumta Taluk in Uttara Kannada district in Karnataka who is 60 years old. She earns her livelihood by selling pottery items in the town. However, what sets her apart from others is her consistent act of feeding birds every day. Jaya feeds about 60 or more crows every day from 6 am to 7 am without fail.

What makes this incident remarkable and extra special is the punctuality of the crows. The birds always reach the spot at 6:30 am without fail anticipating the meal. Sometimes, Jaya offers them food at 7:00 am as well. However, there has not been a single day when these birds have missed eating the food offered by Jaya Nayak.

While many individuals give leftover food like rotis, chapatis, rice or other food items to the animals or birds. Jaya Nayak prefers to go the extra mile in giving them fresh food. She wakes up early every morning and then makes food specifically for the feathered friends.

The crows eat the meal offered by the woman and fly away happily. For the crows, she is more than their provider, like a nurturing and motherly figure in their lives and they have developed a bond with her.

These act of kindness serves as constant reminders that a little compassion can ensure a beautiful bond between humans and animals. Jaya Nayak’s dedication to serving the feathered beings also earned her respect in her community and how such acts can boost harmony between humans and nature.
