Railways is set to roll out a new QR code payment system, allowing passengers to travel without needing cash. This initiative is part of a broader effort to modernise and streamline railway services by making all stations cashless. Currently, passengers face challenges at ticket counters due to the lack of online payment options, often resulting in inconvenience when cash is not available. To address this issue, the Malda Division of Eastern Railways is spearheading the implementation of cashless ticketing across all its stations.

Shiv Prasad, Additional Divisional Railway Manager (ADRM) of the Malda Division, reportedly said that the introduction of dynamic QR code devices at ticket counters will significantly ease payment processes. These devices will send payment requests to passengers’ mobile phones, allowing them to complete transactions electronically.

This change aims to resolve common issues such as disputes over change and will improve operational efficiency by reducing the time spent on handling cash. The move is expected to benefit younger passengers who prefer digital payment methods and do not carry cash.

With these advancements, the railway system hopes to enhance passenger convenience and streamline ticketing operations.
