The redevelopment of Nagpur railway station is moving forward steadily and is set to finish by December next year, according to the Rail Land Development Authority (RLDA).
The updated station will handle 98,000 passengers daily. So far, the project is 33 percent complete with all preparatory work and utility relocations done.
Once finished, the station will have separate Foot Over Bridges (FOBs) for arrivals and departures. A 108-meter-wide concourse will feature a roof plaza with various amenities and retail options.
To avoid passenger inconvenience, a temporary new booking counter is ready but will be moved only after connecting a staircase to the South FOB on platform 8.
According to the Financial Express, on the west side, there will be a departure and arrival plaza (G+2) with a basement parking area of 3,420 sq m. A designated circulating area will ensure smooth traffic flow for taxis, cars, and auto rickshaws, making drop-off and pick-up easy.
Upcoming work includes platform upgrades for FOBs and the concourse, with steelwork fabrication in progress. This project is being done in phases to minimize disruptions to train operations and passenger inconvenience, while also preserving the station’s heritage.
