Jeep India has been doing everything to establish their dominance in the Indian SUV market.
The company has been going through a turbulent period for quite some time now. Despite launching some good products over the last few years, Jeep has struggled to get the desired response due to its premium positioning and high price tags.
The automaker now seems to be putting focus on upgrading the outstanding models. A few days ago, the latest model of the Jeep Meridian was spotted testing the ADAS (Advanced Driver Aids System) suit in the streets of Bengaluru.
In the spy image going viral across social media, the ADAS sensor was clearly visible as it was mounted in the bottom half of the grille. Apart from this modification, there was nothing new in the test mule. A sticker reading “Bosch Test Vehicle” was also spotted on the black-and-white camouflage print, meaning Jeep India has collaborated with the German technology company to develop the ADAS suit, as reported by Rushlane.
The testbed vehicle had the registration number of Maharashtra. Going by the number plate, it can be understood that the Meridian might have been rolled out of the Fiat Chrysler Automobiles (FCA) Ranjangaon Plant. That’s why most of Jeep India’s test mules were previously seen in Mumbai and Pune. The tag of BOSCH also featured camera and microphone symbols, hinting towards more advanced features. The Jeep Meridian also had blind spot-monitoring indications on the outer rear-view mirrors.
Toyota Fortuner and MG Gloster are currently the top competitors of Jeep Meridian available in the Indian auto market. Among them, only the Gloster is equipped with the ADAS technology. Last year, Jeep India launched the Overland version of the Meridian in India. Apart from changes in the engine configuration, the latest edition has seen some cosmetic tweaks as well.
The look of the interior has also been modified, featuring a dual-colour theme of copper and dark brown. The exterior remains mostly the same, except for the 7-slat grill, which gets a chrome finish. A 2.0-litre diesel engine powers the Jeep Meridian. It is capable of producing a maximum power of 165 bhp and a peak torque of 350 Nm. If the Meridian model receives positive responses, Jeep India might think about adding the ADAS sensor to the Compass as well in the future.
