Hyderabad Metro: Project Gets Green Light, Check New Routes for Easy Airport Connectivity
Hyderabad Metro's Phase-2 unveils visionary routes connecting the city to Shamshabad airport, prioritizing cost-effective access for all.

Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy, fresh from a five-day foreign visit, has given the green light to the blueprint of the second phase of the Hyderabad Metro Rail project.

The new plan is set to link the Shamshabad airport with various corners of the city, covering a distance of 70 km.

In a bold decision, Revanth Reddy scrapped the previous government’s proposed airport Metro Rail routes from Raidurg, deeming them impractical. The new route map, prepared by Hyderabad Metro Rail Limited (HMRL) under his guidance, extends the Metro Rail network to new areas, prioritizing the goal of providing cost-effective transportation to a larger section of the population, as reported by Deccan Chronicle.

Sources indicate that the previous government’s plan from Raidurg to the airport primarily served real estate interests. In contrast, the new routes under the Congress government aim to fulfill its commitment of providing Metro Rail services to a more extensive demographic, particularly benefiting the poor and middle classes.

The current Hyderabad Metro Rail spans 69 km across three corridors, linking Miyapur to LB Nagar, JBS to MGBS, and Nagole to Raidurgam. With Phase 2, the network will stretch from Secunderabad Jubilee Bus Station to MGBS, extending further to Chandrayangutta crossroads. Additionally, four new corridors are set to redefine the city’s transportation landscape.
