Bangalore International Airport Limited (BIAL) has announced plans for a major upgrade at Kempegowda International Airport.
BIAL has invited bids for building an elevated western cross-field taxiway (WCT).
This new taxiway is a key part of BIAL’s master plan aimed at boosting efficiency and safety for aircraft moving between terminals and runways. The project is set to be completed by 2026.
According to TOI, the WCT will be able to handle various types of aircraft, including large wide-body jets like the Airbus A380, Boeing 777, and Boeing 747-8.
A BIAL spokesperson explained, “The new taxiway will increase our airside capacity by connecting the south and north runways on the west side. This will improve airfield circulation and provide better connectivity between the two runways, resulting in shorter taxi times. It will allow for smoother flow of aircraft movements, enhancing safety and efficiency.”
Similar upgrades at Delhi Airport have already shown significant benefits, including reduced taxi times, enhanced safety, better efficiency of aircraft movements, and reductions in fuel consumption and emissions.
