'Untrue': Kamala Harris' Husband Doug Rejects Reports Of Slapping Ex-Girlfriend During 2012 Cannes Film Festival
Doug Emhoff denies allegations of slapping a former girlfriend during the 2012 Cannes Film Festival, as unnamed sources claim details of the incident

The husband of US Vice President and Democratic nominee Kamala Harris for 2024 elections has denied allegations that he slapped an ex-girlfriend during a trip to the Cannes Film Festival in 2012.

The claims were reported by the Daily Mail, which cited three unnamed sources who alleged that the incident occurred while Doug Emhoff and his then-girlfriend, referred to as “Jane,” were waiting in a valet line after an event in Nice, France.

‘Report is untrue’

In a statement to news outlet Semafor, a representative for Emhoff called the report “untrue” and said that any suggestion he had ever hit a woman was false. “This report is untrue,” the representative stated. “Any suggestion that he would or has ever hit a woman is false.”

The UK-based newspaper said the alleged spat was sparked when Jane flirted with a valet attendant. One source, according to the outlet claimed, “He hauled up and slapped her so hard she spun around,” adding that Jane was left in “utter shock.” The source also mentioned that Jane slapped Emhoff back after the incident.

The friends of Jane reportedly provided the Daily Mail with photos of the couple together, as well as itineraries and correspondence confirming their trip to France in May 2012. Another friend recounted that Jane called him sobbing after the incident and described how Emhoff had reacted. “It was very clear what she was telling me,” he was quoted as saying by Fox News. “She said she was with a guy, her date, she was at the Cannes Film Festival, and he hit her.”

‘She hit him back’

The third friend claimed she learned about the incident in 2014 and received more details in 2018 when Harris was making headlines for her questioning of Supreme Court Justice Brett Kavanaugh over sexual assault allegations. “When he hit her she hit him back, like, ‘Don’t you ever do that again,’” this friend recalled.

Despite these allegations resurfacing now, neither Harris nor Emhoff has publicly commented on the matter beyond the denial from Emhoff’s spokesperson. The UK-based report comes just weeks before the presidential election, where Harris will be facing former President Donald Trump.

Emhoff has previously been open about his supportive role as Second Gentleman and has built a reputation as an advocate for women’s rights. In a recent MSNBC interview, he spoke about his commitment to supporting women and emphasized mutual support in his marriage with Harris. “To me, it’s the right thing to do, support women,” he said during the interview.
