Islamabad: Pakistan's Supreme Court on Thursday issued a notice to Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif and members of his family on the Panama Papers leaks on offshore accounts.
The notices were issued to Sharif, daughter Maryam Nawaz sons Hasan Nawaz and Hussain Nawaz, Finance Minister Ishaq Dar among others, Pakistan Today reported.
The court heard several petitions, including by Imran Khan of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf, which accused Sharif and his family members of illegally transferring money abroad after the Panama Papers leaks showed his family of possessing properties in the UK.
Nawaz however welcome the move and said the issue of the Panama Papers was brought to the notice of the Election Commission, Lahore High Court, and the Supreme Court, Geo News quoted the prime ministe.
"I believe in the constitution, supremacy of the law and transparency," he said.
A three-member bench presided by Chief Justice Anwar Zaheer Jamali heard the petitions including two petitions filed by the Imran Khan's Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf calling for the disqualification of the prime minister, the report said.
The documents available on the ICIJ website, Sharif's children were allegedly "owners or had the right to authorise transactions for several companies".
