Lieutenant General Asim Malik, who is currently serving as the Adjutant General at General Headquarters (Pakistan Army) (GHQ), has been appointed as Pakistan’s new Director General (DG) of Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI). He will take charge from September 30.

Malik has previously commanded the Infantry Division in Balochistan and the Infantry Brigade in Waziristan. He has also received the Sword of Honor in his course. Apart from this, he has also been posted as Chief Instructor NDU and Instructor Command and Staff College, Quetta.

Malik is a graduate of Fort Leavenworth and Royal College of Defense Studies.

The reason behind the change is that no extension has been granted to current chief Nadeem Anjum.

He is from Balochistan and his appointment will impact the political situation in Pakistan, especially the Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) and Balochistan.
