Elon Musk Shares Data Showing Indian-Americans Have Highest Median Household Income In US, Pakistani-Americans Rank 5th
Elon Musk appeared to attack the narrative that gender and race plays a role in income inequality.

Elon Musk on Thursday in social media post on X pointed out how immigrants have fared well in the US by sharing a statistic that showed median household income of various ethnic groups that have migrated to the US.

The infographic, based on data from the US Census Bureau focusing solely on Asian immigrant groups, showed Indian Americans have one of the highest median annual household incomes at $119,858, followed by Taiwanese Americans, Chinese and Japanese Americans.

The data set also showed that Pakistani Americans have a median household income of $77,315, ranking fifth in the table. The data set also contained the median household incomes of Filipino, Korean, Cambodian, Hmong and Vietnamese Americans.

All of them showed that their median household income is higher than that of White Americans who $65,902.

“Wow, America really is the land of opportunity!” Musk, an immigrant himself who immigrated from South Africa, said.

Elon Musk’s argument appears to be that the Left does not include pay, wage or income statistics of Asian immigrant communities because it does not add to their narrative that race and gender play a crucial role in income inequality.

Musk has earlier also posted similar posts on X.

Last month he re-shared a statistic which showed that Asian women earn more than white males in the US. The original post that he re-posted has now disappeared from X, a platform he owns.

Musk appeared to agree with the question that appeared along with the infographic on earnings of Asian women and White American men.

“Ever wonder why Asian women aren’t mentioned by the left when it lectures us about race and gender pay gaps? Because Asian women are the stone that kills both narratives,” the text accompanying the infographic said.

Musk on Thursday tried to make a similar argument with the infographic he shared.

When a fellow X user replied to his post by saying, “That destroys the mainstream media and the Leftist narrative”, the billionaire replied by saying ‘Yup’.

Musk believes that the Left leaves Asian men and women out of the equation because it does not fit their narrative that women from ethnic backgrounds face a double disadvantage.

Tom Chiang Jr, a sociologist and Florida resident, in an article for the American Sociological Association’s journal Contexts attributed the success of Indian-Americans to favourable immigration policies.

“Unprecedented economic success among Indian Americans could be partly attributed to the United States’ immigration policies favourable to immigrants who were already highly educated before coming to the United States,” he said in his paper.

A research conducted by the Pew Research Center says that ‘gender pay gap differs widely by race and ethnicity’.

“In 2022, Black women earned 70% as much as White men and Hispanic women earned only 65% as much. The ratio for White women stood at 83%, about the same as the earnings gap overall, while Asian women were closer to parity with White men, making 93% as much,” their research showed.

Pew said in a survey report released in 2015 that it chooses white men in comparisons such as this because they are the largest demographic group in the workforce (33% as of 2015).
