World's Smallest Prison In UK Has Just Two Cells
Sark Prison, built on Sark Island (UK) in the English Channel, is considered the world's smallest prison.

When you think about prisons, you might think of the vast jails in Tihar or Yerawada, which house thousands of prisoners. According to the official website of the Central Jail, Tihar Jail has a capacity of 10,026 prisoners, but in reality, 19,500 prisoners live in that jail. But have you ever heard of the smallest prison in the world that has a capacity of only two prisoners? It was built 168 years ago.

According to the Daily Star News, Sark Jail built on Sark Island in the English Channel is considered to be the smallest prison in the world. It was built in 1856. Only 2 prisoners can stay in it. Since then, there have been no major changes in this jail. Yes, the inside look has changed, tap-toilet facilities and electricity have been arranged. Sark Island itself is super small with an area of 5.4 square kilometers. According to the 2023 census, 562 people live on this island.

In 1832, the court ordered the construction of this jail, but it took 24 years to complete because no one had the money to build it. Now the area inside has been divided from the middle, which has led to two rooms. One room is six by six feet while the other is six by eight feet. Both rooms have thin wooden beds. A prisoner can be kept in this jail for a maximum of two to three days. However, no major crime takes place on this island. Because of this, there are only two policemen are there on the island.

According to the report, some people who have lived on this island claim that many people here have criminal cases, including drunk driving or some other cases, but due to lack of resources, no action has been taken against them. Because of this, even though there is a jail on the island, it is not used much.
