Growing up with siblings who are within the same age group means indulging in fights and quarrels. Needless to say, these minor fights sometimes escalate into physical altercations. Most of these quarrels get resolved on their own and are considered part and parcel of growing up with siblings. But, in rare cases, when one sibling overpowers the other, intervention is needed. Now, a video is going viral on Instagram that is instigating a debate on what is acceptable when it comes to physical fights between young siblings.
The said video shows a brother-sister duo getting ready to blow candles. Instead of blowing the candles together, the boy blows out the candles without his sister. She reacts instantly and slaps his head. The people recording the video begin laughing at the girl’s action. This video was shared by a popular Instagram account of a Turkish brother-sister duo. The siblings often make paid videos in which they wish people. They have over one lakh Instagram followers. In this video, the girl was dressed in a makeshift saree, while the candles on the cake said 60, showing that they were probably making a birthday wish video for one of their followers.

The above-mentioned clip has over 29 lakh likes since it was posted on January 17. Commenting on the video, an Instagram user wrote, “…and that’s how you encourage bad manners – by laughing when it happens. And that poor boy has now learnt that it’s OK to be disrespected/disrespectful.” Another commented, “I don’t wanna jump into conclusion but as what I can see in their profile and this video. The girl is well spoiled and the brother is nice by character.”
However, many thought that the video was not concerning. An Instagram user described the girl’s action as “That’s normal sibling behaviour”. Another opined, “Parenting lesson on comment section for a couple sec clip is hilarious, I would like to see y’all “teaching” your toddlers every 5 sec. It’s part of their play: let them play, let them fight, girl shouldn’t have slapped that boy, but he boy shouldn’t have blown the candles etc on what other things are you going to police the toddlers on. It’s not that serious.”
Taking a more humorous approach, an Instagram user wrote, “Girls hands are faster than Eminem’s Rap.” Another joked, “That’s you shouldn’t tie a saree to your child. Look how she turned into a typical Indian mum.”
