When it comes to heartwarming moments captured in the wild, there is no shortage of content online. One such adorable video of a giraffe giving birth to a calf and the newborn taking its first steps on wobbly legs is currently doing the rounds on the Internet. The video captured by photographer Johan Van Zyl and his team at Wild Eye at Kruger National Park in South Africa has grabbed the audience’s attention. He shared the footage on his Instagram post but a full video was also uploaded on Latest Sightings.

It was at the time when Johan and his team were on the drive that they spotted a female giraffe giving birth to a calf and stopped right by to witness the magical moment. Minutes after the baby giraffe’s birth, the calf tries to make its first steps. After several failed attempts, the newborn stood on its own.

Sharing this story, Johan in the caption wrote, “While out on the drive, we spotted a female giraffe, and we could instantly tell that something was different about her. Her body language and movement were not normal. As we approached, we discovered that she was in the process of giving birth—something that is not often seen, let alone caught on camera."

Aware of how sensitive that situation was and the fact that female giraffes were too vulnerable while giving birth, Johan and his team members quietly observed them from a respectable distance.

He also revealed that the entire process took around 45 minutes to an hour. The baby giraffe’s legs were the first to come out of her mother, and after some time, the rest of the body became visible. “As it came to an end, we could see the relief on the mother’s face, and with a loud thump out came this tiny newborn giraffe," Johan added.

“We watched as the little one struggled to take to its steps, wobbling and falling over. This was very cute and heartwarming for everyone to see. New life had been witnessed, and it was amazing to see how active the little calf was from the get-go," Johan further said. He added that the mother gently pushed and helped her baby stand on his own legs for about an hour.

Johan and his team waited until the calf took his first steps but soon departed to give the mother and his newborn some personal space. “We went with warm hearts and smiles all around for being able to witness the incredible moment," he continued.
