In the hustle and bustle of adulthood, amid work, marriage and parenthood, there’s a heartwarming feeling that comes when we unexpectedly bump into our beloved teachers or students from our school or college days. It’s a simple joy, a wave of nostalgia that takes us back to those carefree days. And for Anand Kumar, mathematician and founder of Super 30, one such magical moment unfolded in a bustling mall in the United States.
In a heartfelt post on X (formerly Twitter), Anand shared a touching encounter that took him down the memory lane. As he was shopping for his children at a mall in New Jersey, someone called out to him who turned out to be his former student.
“Many such incidents often happen in my life which seem like something from a film. Just today, I was buying some stuff for the children in a mall in New Jersey. Suddenly a voice came from behind….Anand Sir, you are here in America,” he wrote in Hindi.
What followed was a brimming reunion with gratitude and nostalgia. Anand recounted how Sandeep insisted on paying the bill for his purchases at the mall and generously offered him a ride to his destination.
“And while paying for the stuff himself, he said that today it is because of your blessings that I have reached here. And not only this, he even dropped me in his car to the place where I was staying. Well, what can be more proud for a teacher like me than this,” he added.
Anand’s post was also accompanied by a photo capturing the reunion.

Anand Kumar, a renowned mathematician, gained widespread recognition for his Super 30 programme which he started in Patna, Bihar in 2002. Through this initiative, he provides coaching to underprivileged students aspiring to excel in JEE–Main and JEE–Advanced examinations. His inspiring story was brought to the silver screen in the film Super 30, directed by Vikas Bahl, with Hrithik Roshan portraying the role of Anand Kumar.
