A young girl from Bihar escaped getting injured after avoiding a lightning strike while filming a video on her rooftop. The incident, which was captured on camera and has since gone viral on social media, shows her dancing in the rain before abruptly fleeing as lightning strikes nearby. She had placed her phone to record herself dancing in the rain, but instead, it inadvertently captured the terrifying moment when lightning struck nearby.
According to the Free Press Journal, Sania Kumari was enjoying the heavy rainfall on the roof of her neighbour’s house in Sirsia Bazar, Parihar, when the lightning struck. Fortunately, the quick thinking of the girl helped her escape a dangerous situation.

On the same day, lightning claimed the lives of at least eight individuals across multiple districts in Bihar. According to PTI, the victims included two individuals each in Bhagalpur and Munger, and one each in Jamui, East Champaran, West Champaran, and Araria districts. The Chief Minister’s Office has announced an ex-gratia payment of Rs 4 lakh to the families of each victim.
Meanwhile, Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar expressed sadness over the deaths caused by lightning, emphasising the need for caution during harsh weather conditions. He urged everyone to follow the guidance provided by the Disaster Management Department, advising people to stay indoors and prioritise their safety.
In Odisha too, at least 5 people in Bargarh and Bolangir districts lost their lives due to lightning. Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi announced Rs 4 lakh each to the victims’ families. The victims included three individuals from Duanadihi village in Bargarh and two from Chaulbanji village in Bolangirh.
Heavy rains were recorded in various areas of Odisha, which caused waterlogging. The Bhubaneswar Meteorological Centre’s Director, Manorama Mohanty, indicated that rainy conditions will continue throughout the weekend and showers are expected for another four days.
