An MLA in Uttar Pradesh found himself in an awkward situation when a 43-year-old petrol pump worker asked him to help him find a bride. Brijbhushan Rajput, the Charkhari MLA, was shocked when Akhilendra Khare openly asked for the legislator’s help in finding him a bride. Khare asserted that he supported the MLA’s success in the most recent elections, claiming to have voted for Rajput. He now sought to receive the same support in his personal life.
The MLA himself shared the video on his Facebook page.
The conversation between the two began when Rajput stopped to refuel his vehicle, only to be approached by Khare, who voiced his displeasure over remaining unmarried. Khare told the MLA, with genuine humour and a hint of hope, “I was born on Karva Chauth, but there’s no one to observe it for me," underscoring his plea.
“Why did you choose me for this job?" Rajput asks Khare, who quickly responds, “I voted for you." This amused the MLA and he responded saying, “Okay, so I will have to get you married? Have you asked anyone else?"
When Rajput enquires about his preferences, the petrol pump attendant responds that he does not want his future wife to come from a particular caste. The MLA then warns him against treating people differently and assures him that he will marry the woman who is meant to be his.
“I will pray for you and also try (to find you a bride), because you have voted for me," Rajput further said. He also enquired about Khare’s salary so that he could let prospective brides’ families know.
The petrol pump attendant says he earns Rs 6,000 a month and owns 13 bighas of land. The MLA says the property is worth crores. Interestingly, the video concludes with Rajput assuring Khare of help.
This interaction elicited a combination of amusement and empathy online.
