34-year-old UK Man Banned From Approaching Women On Public Transport
On April 4, Birmingham Magistrate’s Court pleaded the man guilty and ordered an imprisonment of seven months.

A few months back, a piece of news surfaced that stated that a woman was banned from approaching her children’s school for sharing inappropriate pictures of herself on social media. A similar incident took place where a girl was banned from a supermarket for wearing inappropriate clothes. Another such news came up recently where a court has banned a person from coming near women in public transport for five years.

According to reports, 34-year-old Kristaps Berzins a resident of Birmingham City in the United Kingdom, sexually assaulted a woman on a train. The reports stated that on June 30, last year he boarded a train from Birmingham and was on his way to Manchester. He sat beside a woman and started making obscene gestures and inappropriate comments. Though she was wearing her headphones ignoring the man, he continued to sexually assault her.

The lady managed to escape when Kristaps went to use the toilet. She immediately changed her seat and reported the incident to a train staffer who later informed the police.

As the British Transport Police investigated the case, Kristaps was found guilty. On April 4, Birmingham Magistrate’s Court pleaded him guilty and ordered an imprisonment of seven months. The court banned the 34-year-old from sitting, approaching, touching or communicating with any lone female on public transport for five years. He was also ordered to sign the sex offenders register for seven years and pay a fine of £300 (approximately Rs 31,000).

Following the court’s verdict, the woman expressed happiness as her assaulter was punished for his deeds. According to a report by Mirror, Investigating Officer PC Molly Brunton Cole said, “This was a terrifying encounter for the young woman who bravely reported the incident and supported the investigation. Thankfully now Berzins is one more sexual predator off the streets. We take all reports of sexual harassment and unwanted sexual behaviour seriously and will support victims throughout our investigations.”
