New Delhi: Microsoft wants you to have a genuine experience of its latest Windows 10 operating system; and that means your pirated games or bootleg software needs to be trashed.
Under its End User License Agreement, Microsoft makes it clear that the new Windows OS is capable of scanning user machines and prohibiting any services that are counterfeit.
It warns users that Windows 10 will also “automatically check your version of the software and download software updates or configuration changes, including those that prevent you from accessing the services, playing counterfeit games, or using unauthorised hardware peripheral devices,” International Business Times reports.
The vaguely defined ‘unauthorised hardware peripheral devices’ could mean anything from modified Xbox controllers to unauthorized versions of Microsoft Office, which would be scanned for possible breach and automatically disabled.
Companies have been taking stringent measures while offering their products in a bid to bring down the level of piracy and the huge loss that it incurs to the original makers.
Video game makers have increasingly required users to input an activation code that comes with purchased copies of the game before they're allowed to play online, limiting the appeal of a pirated copy.
The software giant is yet to clearly indicate what its EULA actually means. This has caused a stir among users who are concerned about their privacy, because Microsoft has reportedly enabled the new OS to regularly send updates of their activity to the company even if they don't wish to do so.
