The hiring situation in India is taking a big hit as the global companies look to slow down their operations. As per a recent ET report, tech companies hiring in India this year was slower than recent years, which suggests they have been directly impacted by the global scenario.
In fact, the report mentions that in comparison to 2022, the posts made for active jobs had come down by 90 percent in 2023 which is a massive difference and tells you how tech companies are going about their hirings.
We have seen the likes of Google, Meta and even Amazon hand out the pink slips in India this year, and most of them have been attributed to performance-related issues, however, it is most likely done to restructure the business and reduce their expenses, which includes employee salaries. The bad news is that companies will be keeping it low with hirings for the next few quarters going into 2024 in the country.
That’s not all, in the next few years, tech companies will also be planning for life with AI, which is already being rumoured to be in plans for giants like Google, who could have as many as 30,000 employees laid off because of changes in its business.
Google is also testing AI in its customer support service these days which has a direct impact on the human-side of operations at the company. The company’s CEO claimed, “it would have been a major overhang on the company. I think it would have made it very difficult in a year like this with such a big shift in the world to create the capacity to invest in areas.”
But luckily it’s not all doom and gloom for techies looking for jobs in the country, as the hiring will happen, especially their specialisation matches the top job profiles that companies are eager to build and hire people for. People who are in the right profession might have to upskill to become a popular choice among the big companies that will be hiring in the next few quarters.
