New Delhi: Actor Gulshan Devaiah's favourite tech toy might appear to be an odd choice but if you think about it, the choice does make sense. And chances are, the same might be the weapon of choice for you too, only that you haven't realised that yet.
Gulshan, whose recent movie Hunterrr hit the silver screen last Friday, says he loves playing with his mosquito racquets the most.
"This is my favourite gadget and I have around four such bats at home - with one in each room. You won't believe, but frying mosquitoes is my favourite pastime."
"I like using them to an extent that, at times, I deliberately keep the windows open and let the mosquitoes get in. And once they are in, it's my time. Trust me, it's good fun," says Gulshan gleefully explaining his favourite pastime.
Gulshan, who has appeared in various Bollywood movies, admits to not being a tech freak and tells that both of his primary gadgets were gifted to him.
He has been using his two-year-old Windows Phone Lumia 920, which was a present from actress Kalki Koechlin, and a three-year-old iPad 2 that was gifted by his mother-in-law on his wedding.
Though Gulshan is quite happy with the performance of what he calls his first full-fledged smartphone, he is planning to upgrade to the Lumia 1020 (with 41MP camera) as his phone's display now has a slight crack.
Comparing his Lumia 920 with his wife's iPhone 5, Gulshan opines, I think that my phone beats my wife's in all ways. It has a better camera, user interface and performance.
Even during the Nokia exodus, Gulshan has been a loyal Nokia user and has never used any other phone apart from a Nokia. His first phone was the Nokia 3310 in 2001, and of all the phones he has used, his personal favourite has been his Nokia XpressMusic phone.
Notwithstanding his choice of all-time favourite phone, Gulshan is just not a music person. "I am not into plugging in the headphones and dozing off while travelling; I, instead, like to click pictures when moving around."
Gulshan goes on to tell that he rarely uses his earphones and likes listening to music being played through speakers. So, whenever there is a need, he plays it on his iPad - adding, "though I know, it sucks, but I manage".
Another gadget that he uses almost daily is his Philips coffee machine. "I am from Karnataka and my wife is European. Coffee is in our blood and both of us are not at all chai people. So this is another device that I can't afford to skip on any day."
On being asked to list his top 5 favourite apps, Gulshan says that Nokia Here Maps is what he uses the most and would like to rank No.1. "Google Maps is equally good, but I prefer Here." His other favourite apps in the order of priority are Truecaller, Twitter, Flashlight and Battery Saver. Music App Shazam is also one.
Gulshan, who does not consider himself a tech-savvy person, says that he does not use his smartphone or any other gadget when shooting or on sets. Also, he is active on social networks for the sake of social presence. "I use my Facebook and Twitter twice a day - early in the morning and second time in the evening. It's only then when I make tweets or reply to my fans."
There is only one gadget that Gulshan is looking forward to buying. And that is a portable projector.
