In an effort to rival Fitbit, Sont has produced its own fitness tracker, which will be available from September.
The new SmartBand 2 is above all a fitness tracker with a built-in heart sensor monitoring your movements. It is also part-smartwatch, with message, email and call notifications (using vibrations and LEDs), an alarm clock that monitors sleeps patterns and a music remote. It is not, however, a regular smartwatch due to its lack of screen.
It is compatible with any device running Android 4.4 (KitKat) onwards and iOS 8.2.
It also allows you to control the music on your smartphone or tablet, with simple taps to play, pause and skip through tracks.
When asked to define exactly what the product is, Sony calls the SmartBand 2 a "lifelogger," referring to the Lifelog app designed to accompany the tracker.
According to Sony, SmartBand 2 reaches full battery capacity in around one hour, lasting up to 2 days.
The SmartBand 2 will go on sale for $132, initially in two colours, with further options to be rolled out later.
