Sennheiser is one of the many audio brands that aspires to appeal to the premium audience with products like the Momentum series. The company has its lineup catering to both wireless and TWS segment, and over here we are talking about the Momentum 4 TWS earbuds that are available in the market for Rs 18,990 where you have Sony and Apple among others with their premium offerings.
The Momentum 4 has a tough fight on its hands but Sennheiser seems well equipped to handle the challenge and we used the earbuds to see if the value translates into quality for most people.
Sound And Noise Cancellation Triumph
Sennheiser has opted for a balanced sound profile on the Momentum 4 TWS earbuds and most people would like that profile which allows you to listen to different genres. We enjoyed listening to the mellow tracks of Yanni that are heavy on instruments and you want clarity seeping through the buds tickling your ears.
That’s what the Momentum 4 TWS offers in most cases. Similarly, if you prefer the heavy bass stuff, these earbuds will keep you happy without going overboard with the bass which is a good trait if you want to listen to music wearing these for a long duration. You get support for hi-res codecs for the premium audio quality experience, a big must-have for audio products in this range.
Talking about the noise cancellation, Sennheiser gives it a triple mode, which includes the transparency option. The main ANC mode works effectively and the sound isolation lets you enjoy the music or movies as the earbuds fit snugly in the ear and block out all the ambient sound and disturbance. You can tweak the settings of the mode from the compatible app which runs on Android or iOS devices.
Design Keeps Us On The Fence
Sony launched the WF-1000 series TWS earbuds a few years back when the charging case was bulky and the earbuds hung out from the ear. The Momentum 4 TWS is following that pattern in 2024 which is not ideal. We prefer the charging and the earbuds to trim down so that you don’t feel the weight of the buds in the ear.
One earbud weighs 6.2 grams while combined with the charging case it comes to 72 grams for the Momentum 4 TWS earbuds. In comparison, Sony’s WF-1000XM5 earbud weighs 5.9 grams which is noticeable in the ear, while the case comes at just 39 grams which is almost half the weight of the Momentum 4 case. The one good thing about the size is that you will never have to worry about them falling off.
Some might say that having a bulker design means space to fit more drivers and battery but convenience surely has to be part of the package as well. Having said that, the charging case is made of premium materials, even though we are not sure of its long-term durability because of the finishing.
Feature-Rich Earbuds Keep Us Happy
Sennheiser prides itself with the features and you see those traits in the compatible Smart Control app. The moment you pair the device, the app gives you a wide range of details, including the ability to change the equaliser settings and the manual option to change the ANC mode (on-off-transparency).
The company also has a smart guide to help you toggle the controls on the buds. Speaking of which, we feel the touch controls are a little too sensitive for our liking. Even the slightest contact activates various features on the earbuds. You have to tap three times to activate ANC which is interesting but the usual playback controls worked too easily during our tests.
Worth The Price?
Sennheiser promises up to 30 hours battery life with the case and we didn’t feel the need to charge the device repeatedly which speaks volumes. Having said that, going by the size and dimensions of the earbuds and the case, we would have expected more juice out of the box.
All in all, the Sennheiser Momentum 4 TWS earbuds deliver on most fronts and if you can look beyond the weighty nature of the product, these are a good fit for most people, especially with the different tip sizes available in the box.
