Samsung on Monday (March 6) officially launched the updated variants of Galaxy A5 and A7 smartphones in India. The 2017 edition variants of both the smartphones are essentially a mid-range alternative to the immensely popular Galaxy S series.
Samsung unveiled the 5.2 inch Galaxy A5 and 5.7 inch Galaxy A7 models with dust and water resistance.
Both the Galaxy A5 and A7 feature an aluminium frame and 3D curved glass back. There is no camera protrusion and this year's edition looks more ergonomic.
The Galaxy A series 2017 also offer a larger memory and battery capacity, with expandable storage of up to 256GB. Both the Galaxy A7 and Samsung Galaxy A5 also support fast charging and also features a reversible USB Type-C port.
There is an always-on display that makes checking time, calendar and notifications easier. The Galaxy A 2017 will be available in Black Sky and Gold Sand variants.
The Samsung Galaxy A7 and Samsung Galaxy A5 will start retailing at Rs 33,490 and Rs 28,990, respectively.
Both the dual-SIM variants of the Galaxy A (2017) smartphones run Android 6.0.1 Marshmallow. Both A5 and A7 include 4G (LTE Cat. 6) and VoLTE support, have used Super AMOLED displays, as well as the same sensors - an accelerometer, ambient light sensor, barometer, magnetometer, and proximity sensor.
Other connectivity options on the smartphones also remain the same - Wi-Fi 802.11ac, Bluetooth v4.2, and NFC. Both smartphones are powered by a 1.9GHz octa-core SoC coupled with 3GB of RAM, and both sport a 16-megapixel rear camera with LED flash and an f/1.9 aperture, as well as a 16-megapixel front camera with an f/1.9 aperture.
Samsung Galaxy A5 (2017) sports a 5.2-inch full-HD (1080x1920 pixels) Super AMOLED display, measures 146.1x71.4x7.9mm, and is powered by a 3000mAh battery while the Samsung Galaxy A7 (2017) sports a 5.7-inch full-HD (1080x1920 pixels) Super AMOLED display, measures 156.8x77.6x7.9mm, and sports a 3600mAh battery.
