New Delhi: As announced last week, OnePlus has announced the availability and price of its OnePlus virtual reality headset which is based on Google Cardboard. Priced at Rs 99, the OnePlus Cardboard will go on sale from the third week of July. The exact sale date will be announced soon, says OnePlus in a press note.
Users in India, however, can try their luck to grab one for free. The company is giving away a plethora of headsets to fans for free under the OnePlus Cardboard Giveaway contest. Users can simply sign up with this form, and the winners will be chosen at random. The contest closes on July 3.
The purpose behind this Cardboard launch is to facilitate the OnePlus 2 launch that will be unveiled to the world completely in virtual reality on July 27.
"To make sure all of you back home have a ringside seat to the presentation of our latest device and to have some fun on the virtual side, the OnePlus Cardboard brings across an immersive VR adventure in a fun and affordable way," says OnePlus.
The OnePlus Cardboard meets the latest norms and specs that were unveiled at Google I/O this year. In addition to the Cardboard 2.0 features, the company says to have made a few more improvements.
Compared to other variations out there, the OnePlus Cardboard is said to be using a stronger, thicker material with high-quality velcro for maximum durability.
Also, optics have been fine-tuned to deliver the same visual experience in a package that is 20 per cent smaller. It is compatible with most devices up to 6 inches in size.
The company explains, "Every inch of OnePlus Cardboard has been coated with a special film that repels dirt and oils, creating a premium feel that last."
