OnePlus launched the new 12 series recently which also includes the OnePlus 12R that has got a global launch this year. The company shared a wide range of details about both the phones and that got people excited, especially for the aggressively priced OnePlus 12R.
However, it seems OnePlus managed to get one thing wrong about the newly launched phone that is likely to change people’s opinion or decision to buy it. OnePlus has confirmed that the 12R variant doesn’t support UFS 4.0 standard, instead it gets UFS 3.1 storage.
The change has been shared by Kinder Liu, COO and President at OnePlus via his post on the community this week. The company made the error not only during the launch but also mentioned the wrong UFS standard on its website.
So, how did OnePlus get it so wrong? The company did think it is using UFS 4.0 storage, however, OnePlus has introduced the Trinity Engine which works in the software to boost memory and storage performance, which many believed was because of using the latest storage standard.
Now that OnePlus has changed its tune, this means people buying the OnePlus 12R will be buying a phone with UFS 3.1 storage and not 4.0. Having said that, UFS 3.1 is no slouch either, after all it is available with the OnePlus 11 series, which means storage performance doesn’t necessarily see a big drop. Liu assures that having the UFS 3.1 storage doesn’t hamper the lifespan of the phone, and it would easily work through for 48 months (4 years) or more.
OnePlus realises that some of the people who have bought or pre-ordered the OnePlus 12R might feel aggrieved by the new developments, and they have a chance to connect the company’s customer team and seek a solution either way that works in their benefit.
