At its special October event in New York City last night, Microsoft had announced new hardware along with interesting Windows 10 updates. Microsoft had loads to talk about 3D, VR and more. Here is a recap of all the important announcements.
1) Windows 10 2017 update
Microsoft has announced a Windows 10 Creator Update scheduled for first half of 2017. The upcoming update will better Windows 10 and include a new social platform called My People. What is it? Through My People, you can connect with contacts easily across platforms like Skype, email and others. HoloLens fans will get to experience improvements and can expect several new features.

2) Focus on 3D and launch of Paint 3D
Microsoft was clearly excited to share information on its ambitions with 3D than another development at the event. The focus was mostly on—3D for everyone. Microsoft wants users to create 3D content on any type of displays along with 3D content for mixed reality and virtual reality.
Another important announcement was the introduction of Paint 3D. It will allow users to create 3D images easily. However, you would need a Surface Pen to unleash the true 3D prowess. To sum up, Microsoft wants to make 3D content creation easy for all to share on social media.
3) More Power to HoloLens- Houzz, HoloTour
HoloLens has been there for a while. At the Build 2016 conference, we had seen it how NASA was using it to train astronauts to deal with Mars while being at its office in US. Now, the company showcased Houzz. What is it? With Houzz you can get a preview of how particular furniture will look when you actually put in your house. The possibilities seem endless. But with Houzz, Microsoft wants people to take HoloLens powered by mixed reality, seriously.
Microsoft also unveiled HoloTour app which allows you visit your dream destination by using the HoleLens and get an immersive experience.
4) Windows 10 VR headsets from Lenovo, Asus and others
Microsoft announced that other brands like Lenovo, Dell, Asus and HP will join the Windows 10 compatible virtual headsets bandwagon. The prices can be as low as $299 and will come with space sensors to get room-scale VR.
5) Gaming gets better
The Windows 10 Creator’s update will be exciting for gamers as well. Microsoft had acquired Beam, remember? The Creator’s update will allow users to broadcast their games and will allow others to suggest the next move. You can also hosts tournaments.
True Bitstream audio for Dolby Atmos is now a reality on Xbox One and PCs. This will ensure the best audio for gaming.
6) Surface Studio and Surface Dial
The most exciting announcement was Surface Studio. The new all-in-one PC comes with a 28-inch PixelSense display with touch support and a new Surface Dial controller. Starting at $2,999, the PC supports Surface Pen and will attract designers. The $99 Surface Dial works both with touchscreen and without touchscreen.
Microsoft says it is “a completely new way to interact with technology and create in the most natural, immersive way."
It is compatible with Surface Pro 3, Surface Pro 4 and Surface Book. However, the integrated on-screen features will be only available on Surface Studio.
It is basically a knob which allows users to do different things with just a turn. Of course, you can adjust brightness and volume with it, giving you that typical analog feel. "When you place the Dial directly on the screen, it brings up a set of digital tools specific to the app that is open, allowing people to more seamlessly move through their workflow," explained Microsoft.
