New Delhi: A week ago it was discovered that Google’s Android is vulnerable to a major security bug and smartphone manufacturers started undertaking concrete steps to issue patches and monthly security updates.
After Google and Samsung, LG is the latest to issue monthly security updates to its Android smartphones.
Security researcher Joshua Drake unveiled what he called Stagefright, a hacking software that allows attackers to send a special multimedia message to an Android phone and access sensitive content even if the message is unopened.
A report on Wired notes that the Google, Samsung, and LG will be providing security updates on a monthly basis through carriers.
Google, on the other hand, has announced that its updates will be rolling out to its entire Nexus line.
Although the issue is easy to fix, but getting it out to all of the fragmented Android ecosystem is a task as for most devices Google depends on the individual phone manufacturers to push updates to the customers.
Other manufacturers like HTC, Sony, and Android One are also said to be issuing patches for the Stagefright bug.
If you aren’t sure if your device is vulnerable to the Stagefright bug, you can use this app to find out.
