Google Pixel users were recently warned about a major security flaw that can leave them exposed to surveillance and hacking attempts. Google has finally issued a fix for the vulnerability via its September 2024 update for the eligible Pixel devices, including the new Pixel 9 series models.
The issue is widespread and reportedly the company has so far stayed away from working on a fix for it, which has finally been done. The Pixel update is rolling out starting this week, and will be available as an over the air (OTA) update for the eligible Pixel devices over the next few weeks.

Google Pixel devices have faced major threat because of an apk vulnerability that would easily allow hackers to bypass the stringent security of the device and surveil their activities like calls, messages and more. The latest Android security bulletin states multiple high severity level issues which highlights the pre-install app which is the culprit in the main issue facing Pixel devices.

As you can see, the list includes all the available Pixel devices and also the ones eligible for the new updates. The fact that Google hasn’t mentioned older Pixel models like the 4a makes us believe the issues aren’t affecting these devices.

You can check for the Android version running on your Pixel phone by going to:
Settings – System – Software Update – Check for update.
Once you see the new version pop-up just install it, restart the device and your Pixel phone is secure.
