New Delhi: A loving husband, an adventurer at heart, and a CFO by profession- this is what Google's money guy Patrick Pichette can be described as. Patrick is opting for voluntary retirement from the search giant in about six months and he has made public some of his immediate plans once he signs off from Google.
Patrick has worked as Google's CFO for seven long years, but has never let his adventurer spirit die. Last September when he was on a similar climbing trip with his wife, Tamar, he was asked a question which stirred him and perhaps led to his decision. Tamar asked him when will it be time for them to just keep going with exploring the world.
He noted in his Google+ post that how when he reflected back on his and Tamar's family, he realised a few simple and self-evident truths that their kids were now grown ups and won't need them much; that he had worked non-stop for almost 30 years to establish himself; and that he and Tamar will be celebrating their 25th anniversary soon.
So, he has decided to end Tamar's wait, grab their bagpacks, and head out to the open roads-exploring Africa, India, the Himalayas, Everest, Bali, the Great Barrier Reef, Antarctica, and wherever she suggests.
Patricks wants to simply celebrate his and Tamar's, "last 25 years together by turning the page and enjoy a perfectly fine mid life crisis full of bliss and beauty, and leave the door open to serendipity for our next leadership opportunities, once our long list of travels and adventures is exhausted."
