New Delhi: As Apple has made official its entry into the smartwatch category, Google is reportedly pepping up its own Android Wear software to include Wi-Fi support and gesture control to hold fort against the Apple Watch.
The next update to the wearable OS is said to allow features like notifications and Google Now to work on Wi-Fi when a Bluetooth connection is unavailable.
The gesture control feature will allow the wearer to scroll through the notifications by a mere flick of the wrist instead of the standard swiping by their other hand.
A report in The Verge stated that the UI will also get some tweaks, with easier access to both Android Wear applications and contacts. Finding applications in Android Wear right now requires either spoken commands or digging through an extra layer of menus.
With Apple's release of its smartwatch range, competitors have to strive hard in improving their own wearables and stand strong in front of the Apple Watch which costs from a base price of $349 and goes up to an eye-popping $17,000 for the gold edition.
