Elon Musk has repeatedly talked about plans to expand the base of his platform X, formerly Twitter with new services. The social media app already lets you make video/audio calls, expand posts to thousands of characters and even has a new-look premium subscription.
But X is also eyeing platforms like LinkedIn with the X Hiring vertical well and truly coming up, and now Musk claims X offers 1 million job postings for prospective people looking for jobs.
The company’s CEO Linda Yaccarino has echoed Musk’s ambitions of making X the everything app, and it seems having jobs listed on the platform is a part of those plans.
The Everything App gets closer every day with more Video options to Calling to Grok to Job postings! Speaking of jobs — there are now 1 million positions listed. Just search and apply here:https://t.co/mkWJhiYIi8 pic.twitter.com/do36L0OhmF— Linda Yaccarino (@lindayaX) February 26, 2024
Interestingly, X is allowing people to search for job posts without having the X Premium plan, which is likely to change in the future when the company feels comfortable enough to put it behind a paywall.
Having said that, after independently verifying the x.com/jobs page, it is apparent that some of the posts are old but X continues to show them in the search results. So, it is clearly a work in progress. LinkedIn is the de-facto option for people after all these years, but surely they don’t mind having more options for such services, something that even Google aspires to offer through Search.
X also has an AI chatbot called Grok which is limited to the paying users, which is understandable but coming back to the job postings, it seems the platform will be calling it X Hiring which only works on the web and iOS for now, but they are working on support for Android, as highlighted by one of the engineers building the platform.
