New Delhi: Asus, besides the ZenFone Selfie, launched a new smartphone - the ZenFone Max (ZC550KL) - with a humongous battery, at its Zen Festival on Thursday. The phone that packs a 5000 mAh battery also works as a power bank, meaning you can use the phone to charge other devices.
The ZenFone Max has a 5.5-inch IPS display with the latest Corning Gorilla Glass 4 atop for scratch-resistance, strength and everyday durability. At the heart of ZenFone Max is a 64-bit Qualcomm Snapdragon 410 processor with up to 2 GB of RAM.
The ZenFone Max features a 13MP rear camera and a 5MP front camera with a wide f/2.0 aperture. The rear camera also boasts laser auto-focus. This dual SIM smartphone supports SIM cards with 4G capability. It will go on sale in October.
The company also launched the ZenFone Selfie at a price of Rs 15,999 in India at the same event.
Following the footsteps of global competitors like Xiaomi and Motorola, smartphone maker Asus is mulling manufacturing in India and has set up an internal team to study the prospects of domestic manufacturing.
The Taiwanese firm, which currently has a share of about two per cent in the Indian smartphone market, aims to expand it to five per cent by next year.
"India offers a huge opportunity, smartphone penetration is just about 10 per cent. We are focusing on getting the entire supply chain right here and not just assembly. Once the supply chain is there, manufacturing will become easier here," Asus chairman Jonney Shih told PTI.
It also launched three versions of its tablet, ZenPad.
