'You Talk Big On Gaza, But...': Anurag Thakur Slams Rahul Gandhi, Congress Over Silence On Minorities In Bangladesh
The former union minister criticised the Congress for not mentioning minority protection in their congratulatory messages to the newly formed interim government in Bangladesh

BJP MP Anurag Thakur on Friday accused Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi and the Congress party of failing to address the safety of Hindus and other minority communities in Bangladesh

“Unfortunately, the Leader of the Opposition (Rahul Gandhi) and the Congress party, in their tweets congratulating the interim Bangladeshi government, did not raise the issue of Hindu or minority protection in Bangladesh,” he remarked, during the Zero Hour in the Lok Sabha.

The former union minister criticised the Congress for not mentioning minority protection in their congratulatory messages to the newly formed interim government in Bangladesh.

“What is their reluctance to address the issue of Hindu minorities?” Thakur questioned. “They speak out on violence in Gaza, yet remain silent on the atrocities against Hindus in Bangladesh.”

Thakur noted that, despite this, Prime Minister Narendra Modi, in his congratulatory message to Nobel laureate Muhammad Yunus, emphasised the need to ensure the safety of minorities.

He stated, “When the interim government of Bangladesh took over, Prime Minister Narendra Modi congratulated them but at the same time he asked them to ensure the safety of minorities.”

The criticism comes amid widespread vandalism of Hindu temples, households, and businesses in Bangladesh since Monday, when Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina resigned and fled to India.

Hasina stepped down in response to mass student-led protests against her government over a controversial job quota system.

On Thursday, Nobel laureate Yunus, 84, was sworn in as the head of an interim government in Bangladesh.

Modi’s Message To Yunus On Protection Of Hindus In Bangladesh

In a post on X, Prime Minister Modi had congratulated Yunus on his appointment and highlighted the importance of “safety and protection” for all minority communities in Bangladesh.

“My best wishes to Professor Muhammad Yunus on the assumption of his new responsibilities. We hope for an early return to normalcy, ensuring the safety and protection of Hindus and all other minority communities,” PM Modi wrote.

Additionally, Prime Minister Modi reaffirmed India’s commitment to collaborating with Bangladesh to achieve mutual goals of “peace, security and development” for both nations.
