Mamata Banerjee has asked Railway minister Mukul Roy to attend the UPA meeting, TMC's Rajya Sabha member Kunal Ghosh said.

Kolkata: In a significant development ahead of Presidential election, the Trinamool Congress on Wednesday said that it would attend UPA's meeting in Delhi on July 14.

Party supremo Mamata Banerjee has asked Railway minister Mukul Roy to attend the UPA meeting, the party's Rajya Sabha member Kunal Ghosh said.

Evading a query if the Prime Minister's office had contacted Banerjee, Ghosh said "what we are saying is that Trinamool Congress will attend UPA's meeting in Delhi and Mukul Roy will represent the party on instruction of Mamata Banerjee.

"It will be after a long gap that Trinamool Congress will be attending a UPA meeting which is a significant development," he said.

Stating that Trinamool Congress has not taken any decision on its stand on the presidential and the vice-presidential election, Ghosh said "whatever decision the party takes will be announced."

Banerjee was in Coochbehar during the day on a short visit to North Bengal. The Railway Minister was accompanying her. She will visit Kalimpong on Thursday.

Trinamool Congress had earlier said that the party chief would announce the party's decision on the presidential poll three days ahead of the election on July 19.
