Suspense Over Sidhu's Next Move as AAP, Cong Woo Him
Sidhu was denied a Lok Sabha ticket for the Amritsar parliamentary seat during the April-May General election in 2014.

Suspense prevailed on Tuesday over Navjot Singh Sidhu's future destination a day after he resigned as Rajya Sabha MP, with AAP sources saying he would campaign for their party in Punjab and the Congress saying he is welcome to join.

Sidhu's wife Navjyot Kaur meanwhile continued to maintain that his journey with the BJP is over and he would not return to its fold although she didn't reveal his next destination.

Kaur, a sitting Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) legislator from the Amritsar East assembly seat and a chief parliamentary secretary (CPS) in the Shiromani Akali Dal-BJP alliance government in Punjab also slammed the BJP-SAD government.

"BJP cannot take away Punjab from Sidhu. We feel let down by PM Modi and Amit Shah. The Akalis don't treat us properly, all our projects are blocked," Kaur told CNN News18.

Kaur also said that Sidhu was nominated by the Narendra Modi government to the Rajya Sabha in April 2016 to placate him.

Meanwhile the speculation continued for a second day on whether Sidhu will join AAP seven months ahead of the crucial assembly polls in Punjab although his wife maintained that only Sidhu could reveal what is on his mind.

"He has been meditating throughout the day owing to Guru Poorima and hasn't spoken to anyone about his future plans," Kaur added.

Sources says that Sidhu might join AAP and campaign for them but won't be the party's CM face in the state although reports also suggest that his wife Navjyot Kaur may get a party ticket from AAP.

Earlier, Kaur had said that she had not resigned from the BJP or as CPS (one rank below a minister) as yet.

"I will take a decision once he comes out and says what he wants to say (regarding his resignation).

Meanwhile, the Punjab Congress on Tuesday evening sent feelers to Sidhu on Twitter and welcomed him to the party.

The Aam Aadmi Party had already welcomed Sidhu's decision on Monday and said that it would be a huge boost for the party's image in Punjab.

Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal and Senior leader Sanjay Singh had both called Sidhu's decision as a brave move.

Earlier, the Sidhu couple have been critical of the Akali Dal, particularly the ruling Badal family.

Navjot Kaur has been critical of the policies of the Punjab government, headed by Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal, of which she is herself a part.

Sidhu was denied the Lok Sabha ticket for the Amritsar parliamentary seat during the April-May General election in 2014.

The BJP had fielded Arun Jaitley, now Union Finance Minister, instead.

An upset Sidhu did not enter Amritsar for a single day to campaign for Jaitley, who lost to Congress leader Captain Amarinder Singh by over one lakh votes.
