Polling parties could not reach the booths due to Naxal threat.

Mumbai: The Election Commission on Tuesday night ordered re-polling in 22 polling centers in three Naxal-infested constituencies of Maharashtra where the polling parties could not reach due to hindrances put up by the extremists.

As many as 13 polling centres in Aheri, seven in Armori and two in Gadchiroli constituencies will go to re-poll on October 15, state's Chief Electoral officer Debashis Chakrabarty said in Mumbai.

Expressing satisfaction over by and large peaceful polling on Tuesday, Chakrabarty hoped that the final figures of the poll percentage being tabled may improve further.

An estimated 62 per cent, one per cent less than the last Assembly elections in 2004, was recorded in the state, he said.

The polling figures of Mumbai city and Mumbai suburban were also much better than recorded in the recent Lok Sabha polls when the twin districts had recorded a combined average of only 41.3 per cent, he added.

The voters turnout in the 10 Assembly constituencies in Mumbai city was 48 per cent, while the 22 Assembly constituencies of Mumbai suburban district recorded 52 per cent polling.
