Punjab Congress spreading false news on state's economy: Sukhbir
Punjab Deputy Chief Minister Sukhbir Singh Badal on Friday accused Congress of trying to defame the SAD-BJP government by spreading false news about economic crisis in the state. "Congress leaders should get their facts corrected as state registered four time jump in revenue from Rs 5,000 crore to Rs 21,000 crore during last six years," Sukhbir said.

"Congress leaders should get their facts corrected as state registered four time jump in revenue from Rs 5,000 crore to Rs 21,000 crore during last six years," Sukhbir said.

Congress leaders are "misleading" people by making false and irrelevant statements, he said. The deputy chief minister said the state power utility which had financial loss of Rs 2,000 crore few years back, has at present clocked profit of Rs 300 crore. Answering a query regarding income, Sukhbir said state government is increasing its income without imposing new taxes.

Stating that power is essential for development, he said by December this year, Punjab state would become power surplus state as the three thermal plants are in advanced stage of completion. About road connectivity, Sukhbir said the all the cities and towns of Punjab will be connected with 4 or 6 lane road in next three years as the state government has finalised the project plan worth Rs 16,000 crore.

On recently launched industrial policy, the Akali Dal leader said the policy received a positive response in its beginning phase as various renowned companies have shown their interests to invest in Punjab. The recent discussions with several representatives of Tata group will soon bring positive development for the state, he said.

On a query regarding VAT refund, Sukhbir said Punjab has made the VAT refund online and automated, which would go directly in the accounts of dealers.
