New Delhi: The allies of the National Democratic Alliance on Wednesday held a meeting at the residence of veteran Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Lal Krishna Advani ahead of the Budget Session of Parliament, which is slated to begin from Thursday.
This comes hours after Union Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kamal Nath and Home Minister Sushil Kumar Shinde held discussion with Leader of Opposition in Lok Sabha, Sushma Swaraj, to resolve the stalemate over the Hindu terror remarks.
They, however, failed to pacify the Opposition as Swaraj, coming out of the meeting, said: "If the BJP is indeed a terror outfit, then why have I been made the Leader of the Opposition? Why aren't we being investigated like terrorists are? We demand that Shinde withdraw his statement".
Earlier on Wednesday, the BJP seemed to have set the tone for the upcoming Budget Session, due to start on Thursday, by announcing it will not cooperate with the government till Union Home Minister Sushil Kumar Shinde apologises for his "Hindu terror" remarks. The party also launched a counter-attack on the Congress by accusing it of playing vote-bank politics in the country.
"Sushil Kumar Shinde should withdraw his statement before the (Budget) Session begins tomorrow and apologise. Otherwise government should not expect any corporation from the Opposition," BJP leader Arun Jaitley said.
BJP President Rajnath Singh also accused the Congress of cheated "the 120 crore people of this country". Rajnath, who was recently chosen as the main Opposition's president, said the Congress was wrong in accusing the BJP of perpetuating communal politics.
