Despite being away from films, Imran Khan remains in the news for his honest and candid interviews. The actor, last seen in Katti Batti, was often targeted by the media during his acting days, frequently compared to Ranbir Kapoor. In a recent interview, Imran revealed that about a decade ago, he was more guarded because the media had a “narrow” and “reductive” worldview, often twisting his statements to make them “spicy.”
Recalling an incident while promoting Matru Ki Bijlee Ka Mandola with Anushka Sharma, Imran said that instead of asking relevant questions, reporters focused on trivial matters. “We perceived the Matru…as an issue-based film. I was thrown into a room full of people from the press and suddenly, someone asked me, ‘Is film mein Anushka ji ne two-piece bikini pehni hai. Iske baare mein aap kya kahenge? (What do you think of Anushka wearing a two-piece bikini?)’ It was horribly uncomfortable. I thought, ‘Main Kya Kahoon? (What do I say now?),’” he told India Today.
Imran mentioned that the press used to bring up his uncle Aamir Khan in interviews just for headlines. “They would ask stuff like, ‘Aap ke mamu ne yeh film dekhi hai, unka kya kehna hai? (Did your uncle see the film? What does he think of it?)’ They wanted to somehow get the mention of another famous person,” said the actor.
He also talked about how the press often misunderstood his wry humor. Imran said, “The media landscape has evolved today and I think people are now approaching it with a far greater sensitivity and a measure of self-regulation. At that time, everyone was in a race. My wry deadpan humour would not land and they would take things I said seriously. They would be like ‘Oh this guy is saying this seriously’ and they would report it like that. They wouldn’t get my sarcasm or irony.”
On the work front, Imran Khan is getting ready to return to Bollywood after nine years, which is a big deal for him. According to a report by Peepingmoon.com, Imran is starting a new phase in his career, with support from his uncle and mentor, Aamir Khan. Aamir has played a key role in Imran’s career from the beginning, introducing him as a child actor in Qayamat Se Qayamat Tak in 1988, and later as the main actor in Jaane Tu… Ya Jaane Na in 2008.
