New Delhi: After being flogged by practically every political party for his government's failure to maintain law and order in the state, Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Mulayam Singh Yadav might just plan a visit to Nithari village.
The "possibility" of the Samajwadi Party supremo visiting Nithari in Noida's sector 31 was announced by state PWD Minister and Mulayam's brother Shivpal Singh Yadav. "There is a possibility the Chief Minister would visit Nithari," he said.
He added that the government had recommended a CBI probe to bring "more transparency and impartiality in the investigations".
Mulayam visited Delhi on Thursday but not Nithari, which is hardly 25 km away. There are many politicians who believe that Noida is a political jinx. In fact, this could be one of the reasons why chief ministers of the state are reluctant to visit the place.
It all started in 1988, when the then Chief Minister Vir Bahadur Singh lost his job just days after a trip to Noida. The next year, ND Tiwari was voted out of power just days after an official visit to Noida.
Kalyan Singh tried to defy the odds, but he too was unsuccessful, losing power in 1999. Mulayam Singh and Mayawati too have met with similar fates in the past.
Mulayam's brother's statement comes amid media speculation about the "Noida jinx" surrounding Chief Ministers and after the row he kicked up by his description of the Nithari serial killings as "a small and routine incident".
