In an attempt to woo the people of Jammu and Kashmir, Prime Minister Narendra Modi announced a financial package worth Rs 80,000 crore for the state. He also added that this is not the final package and is just the beginning.
"Rs 80,000 crore is just the beginning of the assistance. we will give more assistance once the work is delivered. I wish that this package is utilised to develop a new strong Kashmir," he said.
Asserting the fact that more employment needs to be generated in J&K, Modi said that the youth in the state have done well in the recent years. "Top most priority to offer jobs to youth of Jammu & Kashmir. For the past few years, Kashmiri youth have been performing well in IITs, IIMs, IAS. I am ready to do everything possible for them. I'm ready to do everything for Kashmir's talented youth like Parvez Rasool," he said.
He also added that the progress and development of Kashmir has to be based on democracy and humanity. "Our idea of reforms should be inclusive and broad-based. I'm hopeful that my Kashmir will rise once again," he said.
Drawing attention to resuming international cricket matches in J&K, Modi said, "Virender Sehwag and Sachin Tendulkar, whoever sent the ball out of the park, they did it with the willow of Kashmir. That day should come soon when international cricket resumes in the valley."
Soon after Modi made the announcement, National Conference leader Omar Abdullah slammed him for weighing Kashmir issue in rupees. "PM Modi has made the same mistake of weighing the Kashmir issue in rupees and paise," Abdullah tweeted.
