Gaya: The Mahabodhi temple will reopen for the general public at 5 pm on Monday after a special prayer. Police have beefed up security in and around the temple at Bodh Gaya in Bihar's Gaya district after the serial blasts on Sunday.

On Monday morning the temple doors opened late by an hour and general public has been restricted from entering the temple for worship till 5 pm. Only Buddhist monks and temple committe member are allowed to enter the Mahabodhi temple till then. Security officers have allowed those who have identity-cards issued by the temple administration.

Meanwhile, the NIA team is probing probe the serial bomb blasts at the Mahabodhi temple. Terror struck the world renowned religious site and 1500 years old temple in Bodh Gaya, Bihar in the early hours on Sunday as a series of nine explosions in and around the famous Mahabodhi temple left two monks injured. However, Lord Buddha statue and the temple have suffered no damages in the blasts.

Prime Minister Manmohan Singh on Sunday strongly condemned the terror strike on the Mahabodhi temple and said such attacks on religious places will "never be tolerated". While President Pranab Mukherjee condemned the serial blasts at Mahabodhi Temple in Bodh Gaya as a senseless act of violence to target innocent pilgrims, Minister of State for Home RPN Singh called the blasts a terror strike.
