New Delhi: The candidates with peculiar names contest in the Lok Sabha elections from across India every time. But, their number is more in Southern and North Eastern states.
The CPM candidate from Chalakkudy is Innocent. He is neither innocent, nor unknown in Kerala. Innocent is a famous film actor in Malayalam.
In neighbouring Tamil Nadu, Napolean has missed the DMK ticket this time. In 2009, he won from Perambalur and even became a minister in the UPA-2. Like Innocent, Napolean is also a film actor. He has been sided with MK Alagiri in the sibling rivalry between MK Stalin and Alagiri. In Tamil Nadu political circles, people are joking that Napolean has lost the battle to Stalin.
Some even say Alagiri is Lenin or Karunanidhi should have named him Lenin. Napolean may even contest as an independent in the Lok Sabha elections.
In neighbouring Karnataka, one time youth Congress leader and the NSUI national president Joseph Stalin tried for the Congress ticket, but could not manage.
It is not limited only to European names. The DMK has fielded CN Annadurai from Tiruvannamalai. Obviously, he is not the original CN Annadurai, who founded the DMK! Just his namesake!
The main rival AIADMK is not far behind. It has fielded K Kamaraj from Kallakurichi. K Kamaraj was a Congress stalwart and its national president during Nehru's time.
The BJP has fielded two 'masters' from Kerala. PC Mohanan Master is contesting from Kannur and Narayan Master is contesting from Muslim dominated Ponnani.
Aam Aadmi Party has fielded Victor Jha and Dr Swami Vivekanand from Katihar and Khagaria respectively. It will only be known on May 16 if Victor manages a win.
In Telangana state, both Assembly and Lok Sabha elections are expected to have candidates with names like Stalin, Lenin, Tolstoy and even a Naxal!
In 2013 Meghalaya Assembly polls, both Hitler and Frankenstein had contested.
