Ranchi: Jharkhand was carved out of Bihar after a long struggle with the tribal population alleging discrimination from Patna. One of the main agenda of the parties championing the cause of Jharkhand was the domicile issue which has been a hot potato for every political party as no one has made its stand on it very clear.
Even the Jharkhand Mukti Morcha which released its manifesto for the 2014 Assembly elections on Monday failed to talk about the domicile issue in the document leading to a huge embarrassment for the party.
Following an uproar, JMM leaders admitted that the party goofed up. The party will revise its manifesto that was "mistakenly" released without the mention of party's stand on domicile policy, and print fresh copies.
The JMM that broke its marriage with BJP 14 months ago in Jharkhand over domicile policy had entirely ignored it in its manifesto called the 'Pratigya Patra', released on Monday.
Immediately after the release of manifestos of two biggest parties - BJP and JMM - several questions were raised over the silence of these parties over domicile policy. However, JMM says it was a careless mistake.
It came as a surprise to many and sparked anger among the tribal community when the party dropped one of its most important poll issues on Monday.
Putting up a weak defence and to avoid more embarrassment, JMM General Secretary Supriyo Bhattacharya said, "Party supremo Shibu Soren has taken the matter seriously and the manifesto will be revised. Soren also said it seems some non-political persons made the document."
"When Guruji and all of us took a glance on the document after the release, he brought to our notice the mistake. Later we realised that a page was not printed." said Supriyo Bhattacharya.
Senior political analyst S Chatterjee claimed, "So far none of the political parties have promised domicile in written making it the biggest puzzle of the state politics. Every party is playing a politics of convenience and no one is ready to take risks on the issue," he said.
