Jaya writes to Andhra CM, seeks release of water
The Tamil Nadu Chief Minister has asked for the release of four tmcft of water from Kandaleru reservoir due for the months of January-April.

Chennai: Tamil Nadu Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa has written to her Andhra Pradesh counterpart N Kiran Kumar Reddy seeking release of four tmcft of water from Kandaleru reservoir due for the months of January-April.

"As you are aware, a quantity of 4 tmcft of water is due from January to April for the augmentation of drinking water supply to Chennai, as per the Krishna water agreement," she said in a letter to him on Saturday.

Since the storage in Kandaleru reservoir was 37 tmcft as on March 24, "it would not be difficult for Andhra Pradesh to release" water for Chennai's requirements, she said.

"May I therefore request you to order immediate release of water from Kandaleru reservoir to Chennai to meet the drinking water requirements in the ensuing months," she said.

Jayalalithaa also thanked him for release of water from June 23 last year pursuant to a letter by her then.
