Jaya suggests separate Eelam to end Lankan strife
AIADMK chief promises to resolve the problems faced by the Lankan Tamils.

Erode (Tamil Nadu): Former Tamil Nadu Chief Minister and All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (AIADMK) chief J Jayalalithaa on Saturday said a separate Eelam alone would be a permanent solution for the ethnic crisis in Sri Lanka.

Launching her electioneering in the western parts of Tamil Nadu by addressing a poll meeting Erode, she said an immediate ceasefire was the need of the hour, but it would alone not be enough to redress the plight of the Lankan Tamils.

The Lankan Tamils should be given rights equal to that enjoyed by their Sinhala counterparts and allowed to lead a dignified life.

''A separate Eelam alone will pave way for this,'' Jayalalithaa said.

She assured the Tamils that if the AIADMK-led front was handed out a thumping victory in the Lok Sabha elections and if the front had a say in the formation of the new government at the Centre, it would definitely take steps for the formation of a separate Eelam and resolve the problems faced by the Lankan Tamils.

''I will myself take necessary steps for the formation of a separate Eelam,'' Jayalalithaa added, appealing to the people to vote for the AIADMK-led front.

Accusing the Congress-led UPA Government of doing nothing for the people in the last five years, the AIADMK leader alleged that the UPA's ''misrule'' had only led to the collapse of the economy.

Middle class people who had made investments in the stock market had lost their money. After the UPA Government hiked the prices of petroleum products, prices of essentials skyrocketed, Jayalalithaa said.

Besides the recession and collapse of economy, which resulted in job loss and inflation, there were increased activities of terrorism and these were the ''achievements'' of the UPA Government, she ridiculed.

Jayalalithaa alleged that the DMK, which had supported the UPA Government, was equally responsible for bringing miseries upon the people.

Claiming that she was not selfish and she had no family, she appealed to the people to give the AIADMK-led front a resounding

victory, so that she would have a say in the formation of the next government and fight for the rights of Tamil Nadu.

If people gave her a 40 out of 40 verdict, a new history would be scripted at the Centre and the new government would be in a position to listen to Tamil Nadu and act, Jayalalithaa said.
