Former Uttar Pradesh Congress Committee Chief and MLA Rita Bahuguna Joshi on Thursday joined BJP and hit out at Congress Party and its vice president Rahul Gandhi. Joshi addressed media in the presence of BJP President Amit Shah and said, “I have served the Congress for 24 years but I feel it has lost reputation. I have also resigned as an MLA from Uttar Pradesh.”
“Rahul Gandhi's leadership is not acceptable to people. With Rahul at the helm, nobody listens to us. He has anyways outsourced the entire party to PK overnight," Joshi said hinting at party strategist Prashant Kishore.

Here are the reasons why Rita Bahuguna Joshi joined BJP:
- She felt "ignored" throughout Congress vice-president Rahul Gandhi's kisan yatra in UP and did not get to be on his vehicle even in her own area, Lucknow.
- Joshi was unhappy with the Congress leadership over the projection of Sheila Dikshit as the party's CM face.
- She was as marginalized in the party’s state affairs since Raj Babbar was made the UP party chief.
- Joshi was anguished over not being given what she considered her "due" in state reorganisation while her rival Pramod Tiwari was named coordination committee chief.
- Joshi’s equation with Congress strategist Prashant Kishor was strained.
- Of late she had developed trust deficit with Congress president Sonia Gandhi despite communicating her commitment towards the party soon after her elder brother Vijay Bahuguna, defected to the BJP.
