New Delhi: The Election Commission will announce dates for Delhi Assembly elections at 4:30 PM on Monday at a press conference after the meeting over the preparations for the polls. The one-day election to the 70-member Assembly is likely to be held in mid-February.
The schedule for the election, sources said, will be fine-tuned to ensure that it is completed in the second week of February or at best the third week and does not come in the way of annual examinations, including those conducted by the CBSE which will commence on March 2.
The Congress is gearing up for fresh polls and appointed senior party leader Ajay Maken to head the party's Campaign Committee for elections.
The BJP has already sounded the poll bugle with Prime Minister Narendra Modi holding a mega rally in the capital on Saturday.
Ahead of the polls, pay scales of the Delhi Administration Subordinate Service Cadre have been revised.
Polls were necessitated in the national capital as the term of President's Rule was due to expire in February. The AAP formed the government with the outside of the Congress in December 2013 but served only for 49 days. As no party staked claim to form the government in Delhi, President's Rule was enforced.
