There seems to be no end to the tussle between the Aam Aadmi Party government and Delhi Lt Governor Najeeb Jung. The latest bone of contention between the government and the L-G is the appointment of the new Delhi Commission for Women (DCW) chief.
Questioning the appointment of Swati Maliwal as the new DCW chief, the Delhi L-G has written to the Arvind Kejriwal government, asking why he was not consulted before the move.
Meanwhile, former DCW chief Barkha Singh attacked the Delhi Chief Minister, saying "he is not interested to work but fight only". "Every appointment should be constitutional. I think Kejriwal knows it well," she said further.
The Aam Aadmi Party government had appointed key Kejriwal aide Swati Maliwal as the new chief of the DCW, replacing Barkha Singh.
The appointment of Maliwal as DCW chief was questioned by the Bharatiya Janata Party and the Congress as well. AAP government had, however, refuted charges of nepotism, claiming that Maliwal had a long record of "activism" in different spheres.
Swati Maliwal, who has been an RTI activists, is the wife of AAP leader Naveen Jaihind.
After assuming charge as the DCW chief on Monday, Maliwal had said that her top priority would be to ensure safety of women.
