New Delhi: India Against Corruption (IAC) leader Arvind Kejriwal, along with former Team Anna members Prashant Bhushan, Manish Sisodia and Kumar Vishwas surrendered before the Delhi Police on Monday morning. However, they were later let off from the Parliament Street police station.
The former Team Anna members courted arrest in response to the FIRs filed against them by the Delhi Police after their protest on August 26. The Delhi Police had filed the FIRs against them for making inflammatory speeches and rioting during their protests outside the residences of Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, Congress president Sonia Gandhi and BJP president Nitin Gadkari in August.
Meanwhile, Kejriwal also reached out to former team member Kiran Bedi, urging her to join his agitation.
Bedi, however, repeated her stance saying she was apolitical. "I am not a part of the political outfit, just like Anna. This country needs an independent Jan Lokpal Bill and the Right to Reject."
She added that the country needs to root out the corrupt people. "However, it will take time. Arvind's party has a future. I believe the IAC needs to go more to the people, explain to them what is needed and go with the less corrupt people. I think Arvind needs more time at the moment. Right now this andolan is a political movement."
She continued, "Arvind's intention is right but is a bit too early.. What he is doing right. I believe we should get the law, and for this we can be with the less corrupt and then give a political option."
Meanwhile, Anna Hazare too took on Sonia Gandhi and questioned why the Congress president allowed her MPs to take to the streets when Parliament did not function when she had actually stopped Team Anna from going to the streets, telling them that their concerns would be addressed in Parliament.
